About Me

A Window into my Art

who am i

LABOH Self-portrait

For many years I pretended that everything was fine. I played many roles, and I played them all convincingly. I felt different, and that is why I did it. Around me there was ruin, the emptiness of what was not really a family. Then things grew heavier: loss, solitude, depression. Meanwhile the world kept moving.

I was beautiful and could not see it. And those who did see it did not dare to say it.

The light was always in drawing. It had been there from the beginning. I was the only one like that. Yet I could not see myself, I could not feel myself. Then at eighteen I shouted it to myself and wrote it on a yellow squared sheet of paper, in capital letters, the only thing I truly knew: I AM AN ARTIST.

I pinned that page to the wall and it made me feel good. Then I left Turin, alone. The page stayed there. I chose the path of design, in fashion. It felt easier, I told myself. And once again I forgot who I was, trying to align myself with everything around me. That declaration had been too big. I could not listen to it. I did not yet know how. So I believed it was love. In truth it was violence, but to me it somehow felt normal. Having never known peace, I remained inside what I already knew.

Then I saved myself. I began to learn who I was, to see myself a little. The old tracks no longer worked. Years of illusions passed, and then I remembered that this is exactly what I am. I had to accept it and welcome it.
That was the beginning of my own legitimization. This website is part of that process of awareness and of opening myself to the world.

I am becoming what I am.

My Style and Vision

deep dive into my world

My art doesn’t begin with a plan. It isn’t technique, it isn’t display, it isn’t premeditated. It isn’t imitation, observation, exercise, decoration, concept, or object. At the Academy, I discovered I had something worth noticing in my drawing, a quality, a voice that is unmistakably mine. I remember the teachers’ surprise, that pause in their looking, and then the careful search for words to describe something unexpected, something that called for respect. That’s why I was there, for that exchange.

I discovered I have a line, a mark, that belongs only to me. I discovered it because I am no longer afraid. I love color, not as something that fills, but as something that lives. Color must shine, must shout, must meet other colors freely, without rules. Nothing comes from the mind alone. There are no conditions, no schemes, no imposed thoughts. I move between the transparency of watercolor and the density of acrylic, because there are different moments in how the self reveals itself.

I never know what it will become in the end. I surrender to the gesture of the pencil, then to the brush, on pale paper, on woven canvas. I tell my story, of when I am a child, a woman, a mother. And in that moment, I am entirely there. Nothing else exists. No outside, no time, no other. The miracle is when you, the viewer, enter it too, when you let go, when you give yourself to that moment of contemplation. Everything suspends, the boundary of yourself gives way, and you see me, and you see yourself.

In the Words of my Clients

LIGHT MIRROR

Sergio Faraci

From the very first moment I saw it, I felt a sense of calm, peace, and harmony, almost as if it had the power to bring order to all the chaos around it. I remember seeing it during an exhibition where several works by other artists were displayed. There were many visual and emotional stimuli, yet “Light Mirror” managed to capture my attention from the very first glance.

QUEEN THE SECOND

Teresa La Fosca

Colors, dense and vibrant, do not merely construct a figure: they become emotional matter, a sensitive surface through which the artist allows an almost ritual presence to emerge. The work does not simply show itself, but activates an inner gaze. The viewer is invited to pause, to linger, to recognize something of themselves in that enigmatic figure. Ilaria Bovassi’s work moves precisely within this space, between the visible and the invisible, between body and memory, between image and perception. A pictorial language that does not describe, but suggests. And for this reason, it endures.
